Equine Empowered Education was founded to bring mental health education to Humboldt County using the healing power of horses.
Humboldt County children and adolescents experience higher rates of behavioral and mental health challenges than children and youth statewide. When compared to California's statewide statistics, our high school students are twice as likely to have considered attempting suicide and twice as likely to use drugs.
We have an epidemic of anxious, unhappy and overwhelmed school-aged children and teens with poor self-esteem, poor communication skills and few coping strategies to navigate their ever-changing, high-pressure environment.
Many students don’t have access to mental health resources due to lack of family resources and a shortage of mental health providers in Humboldt County.
Seeing the many barriers to mental health resources, Equine Empowered Education was founded to fill the gap. We have partnered with Healing Strides Psychotherapy to bring their over 30 years of experience providing therapy to children and teens and their herd of 11 horses and ponies to help make life better for Humboldt County youth.
